Axel Chay

Marseille, France-based self-taught designer who launched his eponymous studio in 2020 after co-founding Nova Obiecta in 2013. Working in hand-welded steel and aluminum along with wood, plaster, onyx, and selenite, Chay makes sculptural furniture, lighting, and objects with bold color and curved forms influenced by the Mediterranean coastline, kinetic art, and the Memphis movement; pieces are produced in a family-run atelier with his wife and brother.
