Daniel Libeskind

Daniel Libeskind is the founder and principal architect of Studio Libeskind, established in 1989. Born in Łódź, Poland, in 1946, he immigrated to the Bronx as a teenager, earned his professional architecture degree from The Cooper Union in 1970 and a postgraduate degree from the University of Essex in 1972. He won the competition to design the Jewish Museum Berlin in 1989, followed by major commissions including the Imperial War Museum North in Manchester and the Denver Art Museum. In 2003, he won the master plan competition for the World Trade Center redevelopment in Lower Manhattan. His honors include the Goethe Medal and the Hiroshima Art Prize.
