David Hirsch

David Hirsch is co-founder and Partner Emeritus of Urban Architectural Initiatives (UAI) in Manhattan, which he established with Tony Shitemi in 1996. He began his career designing housing and educational projects at prominent New York City firms before moving into public-sector roles as Director of Urban Design for the Office of Downtown Brooklyn Development and as a Senior Urban Designer with the Mayor's Office of Development. At UAI his work ranged from the historic rehabilitation of a former police station into affordable housing to contemporary supportive-services facility design. He has since relocated to Palo Alto, California, and retains an advisory role at the firm.
