New York-born furniture artist who was a core member of the Art et Industrie gallery in SoHo from 1980 until its 1997 closing, producing sculptural, artist-designed chairs and furniture now held in the permanent collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Museum of Art and Design, and the Brooklyn Museum. Meister stopped making furniture in 1997 to focus on photography and artist's books; he now lives in rural Massachusetts, and his furniture is represented in New York by Superhouse gallery.
