Rachel Shillander

Los Angeles-based artist and architect whose furniture and object work reinterprets architectural ideas as sculptural forms. Working with familiar materials and traditional building systems, Shillander's pieces — including her 2020 Disco Chair — explore themes of nostalgia, place, and domestic ritual. Her work is represented in New York by The Future Perfect gallery. Shillander is the founder of art and architecture studio Lland. The Disco Chair, produced in a limited edition of eleven, is formed over an inflatable mold and covered in roughly 30,000 individually hand-set mirror tiles, and is offered alongside a matching Disco Ottoman. Her architectural design work includes the 2021 Lunya retail store in Los Angeles.
