Thomas Phifer

Thomas Phifer is Founder and Director of Thomas Phifer and Partners in New York. Born in Columbia, South Carolina, he earned his Bachelor of Architecture in 1975 and Master of Architecture in 1977 from Clemson University, and studied at the Clemson Architecture Center in Genoa, Italy. He founded his firm in 1997 after a decade working for Richard Meier. Notable projects include the Glenstone Museum expansion in Potomac, Maryland, the North Carolina Museum of Art, the Corning Museum of Glass expansion, the Brochstein Pavilion at Rice University, and the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw. He received the Rome Prize in Architecture in 1995 and was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Letters in 2022.
