Bien Hecho

Brooklyn Navy Yard carpentry and design workshop operating since 2006, building custom kitchens, cabinetry, hardware, and fine wood finishes for architects, contractors, and homeowners. The studio also runs the Bien Hecho Academy, a woodworking training program based at the same Navy Yard facility. Founded by John Randall, whose name for the studio means "well made" in Spanish, the workshop grew out of a career change: Randall studied biology at Vassar College and pursued graduate work in neuroscience and biophysics before training in a wood shop and turning to furniture and millwork full time. Notable commissions include the Astor Place Kitchen, Metal Shutter House, Bowery Residence, and Lake Residence, alongside studio pieces such as the Allcomers stool and a credenza offered in a Butternut colorway; Randall favors a restrained design approach centered on material and detail.
