Fabric and wallcovering design house founded in New York City in 1889 by Frederic Schumacher, now headquartered at 459 Broadway in SoHo. The company designs and markets textiles, wallpaper, trim, and furniture for the interior design trade, and is the parent of sister brands including Patterson Flynn and Tillett Textiles. The firm's early clients included Edith Wharton and Elsie de Wolfe, and it has supplied textiles for the White House, the U.S. Supreme Court, and the Metropolitan Opera, including a 1902 fabric designed by architect Stanford White for Theodore Roosevelt's White House. Still privately owned by descendants of its founder, the company operates roughly 18 showrooms nationally and internationally, and since 2013 has been led creatively by Dara Caponigro, former editor of Domino and Veranda magazines.
