George Sexton Associates

Museum and architectural lighting design firm founded in 1980 by George Sexton, headquartered in Washington, DC, with an active New York office in Midtown Manhattan and a third office in Norwich, England. The firm specializes in museum, gallery, and institutional lighting design, with a portfolio including the IWM London, the MFA Boston, and the Smithsonian's Robert & Arlene Kogod Courtyard. Sexton, a Virginia Tech-trained architect who began his career on the National Gallery of Art's East Building under lighting consultant Claude Engle, has since designed lighting for the Museum of Modern Art, the Denver Art Museum, and the National Gallery of Australia. The firm also led the lighting restoration of Houston's Rothko Chapel alongside Architecture Research Office, reworking the skylight and louver system to restore Rothko's original intent for the space.
