Humble Matter
Furniture & Objects StudioEst. 2014Brooklyn-based multidisciplinary art and design studio founded in 2014 by ceramicist John Born, producing ceramics, furniture, lighting, and sculpture built from a vocabulary of repeated, archetypal forms. Born holds a BFA from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and has lived and worked in Brooklyn since 1993. Before founding the studio he spent 15 years in advertising and began making ceramics in 2012, training at Greenwich House Pottery, one of the oldest nonprofit ceramics studios in the country. Humble Matter's functional vessels and sculptural forms have been shown at Dobrinka Salzman Gallery in New York and are carried by retailers including Garde; the studio's pieces are also represented in New York through Love House gallery.
