Co-Founder, Withers Studio at Withers Studio

Brooklyn-based furniture designer and maker, co-founder of Withers Studio (formerly Withers & Grain), which he started with Luke Fasano in 2009. The studio works from a Red Hook workshop with a Williamsburg showroom, producing made-to-order tables, seating, and casegoods in sustainably sourced hardwoods for residential clients and design firms. Johnson's early work centered on reclaiming wood from demolished New York buildings, including salvaged water-tower timber, which he combined with welding and carpentry techniques into custom furnishings for hospitality clients such as hotels and lounges. The studio has since worked with design firms including Rockwell Group and Gensler and with artist Kehinde Wiley, and its current range spans dining and occasional tables, seating, mirrors, and shelving, with custom metal, stone, and glass components produced by local vendors.
