David Adjaye

Sir David Adjaye OM OBE is the founder and principal of Adjaye Associates, the architecture practice he established in 2000, now with studios in Accra, London, and New York. Born in Dar es Salaam and raised across several countries before settling in Britain, he graduated from London South Bank University with a BA in architecture in 1990. Early commissions included the Nobel Peace Centre in Oslo and the Idea Stores in London. He is best known for designing the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington, D.C., as well as Ruby City in San Antonio and the Sugar Hill Development in Harlem. He was knighted in 2017 for services to architecture and received the Royal Gold Medal in 2021, becoming its first African recipient.
