Jamie Gray

Founder and creative director of Matter Made, a Greenpoint, Brooklyn manufacturer of contemporary lighting, furniture, and objects he established in 2003 alongside the Matter retail platform in Manhattan. Trained in fine arts and sculpture at Pratt Institute, Gray oversees small-batch development, prototyping, and production, collaborating with contemporary American and international designers. Before founding Matter, Gray worked in ad sales and motorcycle restoration and ran a small cafe in Seattle in the 1990s, where he began collecting mid-century furniture from thrift stores and estate sales and selling pieces to dealers and at flea markets. Designers who have collaborated with Matter Made include Luca Nichetto, Jamie Wolfond, and Faye Toogood.
