Kassandra Thatcher

Sculptor and lighting designer working from a Bushwick, Brooklyn studio, producing hand-built ceramic, plaster, and metal lamps, sconces, and chandeliers through an improvisational process. Her biomorphic forms draw on the human figure and gesture, informed by an early background in modern dance. Thatcher works without preliminary sketches in a coarse, sand- and grog-flecked sculpture clay, and cites sculptors Jean Arp, Henry Moore, Constantin Brâncuși, and Barbara Hepworth as influences. A table-lamp collection inspired by Edward Weston's seashell photographs was shown at Mary MacGill Studio in Germantown, New York, and her work has also been carried by Spartan Shop and Totokaelo. Thatcher has shown at the Field + Supply craft fair and is represented in New York by Love House.
