Lewis Prosser

Penarth, Wales-based basketmaker whose speculative, performance-inflected work explores regional heritage and craft traditions of the British Isles. Trained as a printmaker at the Glasgow School of Art (graduating 2015) and the alternative program School of the Damned, Prosser is self-taught in willow and straw basketry and also curates The Turner House Gallery in Penarth. He has exhibited at Mostyn, Mission Gallery, V&A Dundee, and Bluecoat, and staged the wicker-costumed performance Making Merrie, whose costumes are now held by the Folk Preservation Society in Teignmouth, Devon. For The Baskets Between Carnival and Lent, he recreated woven objects from Pieter Bruegel the Elder's 1559 painting for exhibition at Oriel Myrddin Gallery. His work is represented in New York by Superhouse gallery.
