Roberto Lugo is a Philadelphia-based ceramic artist represented in New York by R & Company. He combines classical pottery forms with portraiture and graffiti-influenced surface design to address poverty and racial injustice and to introduce historically marginalized figures into the decorative-arts canon. A graduate of the Kansas City Art Institute and Penn State, he is assistant professor and head of ceramics at Temple University's Tyler School of Art, and his work is held by the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Brooklyn Museum, and the Smithsonian American Art Museum.
