Shanan Campanaro

Shanan Campanaro founded Eskayel in 2008, turning her own watercolor paintings into repeating patterns for hand-painted wallpaper, small-batch fabric, and hand-knotted rugs, the latter added to the line in 2014. Trained at Central Saint Martins, she worked in graphic design at retailer Express while building the company before leaving in 2010 to run it full time. She runs the studio and showroom she built with her husband and business partner, Nick Chacona, in a converted space in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, alongside a second studio in San Diego. The archive spans more than 800 patterns; wallpaper, fabric, and prints are produced to order in the U.S. with water-based pigment inks, and Eskayel has produced an exclusive wallpaper collaboration with furniture brand Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams.
