Stephen Cassell

Stephen Cassell is founding principal of Architecture Research Office (ARO), the Manhattan practice he co-founded with Adam Yarinsky in 1993; joined by Kim Yao as third partner in 1997, ARO received the AIA Architecture Firm Award in 2020. He holds an undergraduate degree in architecture from Princeton University and a Master of Architecture from Harvard's Graduate School of Design. He has twice served as the Shure Professor at the University of Virginia and the Friedman Professor at UC Berkeley, and has taught at MIT, Columbia, Harvard, and Princeton. A Fellow of the AIA, he was elected to the National Academy of Design and received the Architecture Award from the American Academy of Arts & Letters.
