Founder & Designer at R & Company

Rio de Janeiro-based furniture and object designer working with reclaimed Brazilian hardwoods and other salvaged materials, building on a practice rooted in his father Jose Zanine Caldas's design legacy. Born in 1978, he trained under furniture designer Sergio Rodrigues and holds a 2002 design degree from the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro, after which he established his own studio, initially working in solid reclaimed wood before expanding into metal and plastics by 2005. He was named Maison&Objet Americas' inaugural Designer of the Year in 2015 and held a 2022 solo exhibition, "Zanini de Zanine: The Sound of Wood," at R & Company, following earlier group shows at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Collaborates with international manufacturers including Cappellini, Slamp, and Tacchini. Represented in New York by the gallery R & Company.
