Chicago-based artist Hai-Wen Lin, winner of MAD's 2025 Burke Prize, presents kites built from hand-dyed silk, bamboo, hand-woven tassels, and jewelry chain that double as wearable garments, work the artist calls "couture for the wind." Sun-dyeing techniques developed for textiles are applied here to kite-making and performance, collapsing boundaries between fashion, sculpture, and aeronautics. A featured piece, Send Them Their Flowers, comprises kites roughly 53 by 40 inches each.
