Sep 8, 2026 – Mar 5, 2028
About
First U.S. exhibition devoted to the Savonnerie manufactory, centered on the Met's carpets from the tapis du roi, a 92-piece commission Louis XIV and minister Jean-Baptiste Colbert ordered in 1668 for the Louvre's Grande Galerie. Held in the Wrightsman Galleries, the show presents four complete carpets, fragments, and trial weaves, plus a temporary in-gallery studio where textile conservators work on one of the monumental pieces in view of visitors.
