Architects of Liberation: Modernism in Western Africa
Jul 5, 2026 – Jan 2, 2027
About
MoMA's first major exhibition on architecture's role in decolonization examines how newly independent West African nations, including Senegal, Ghana, Nigeria, and Cameroon, used modernist buildings to project a progressive, cosmopolitan self-image engaged with Pan-Africanism. Drawing on roughly 400 objects, including drawings, models, archival images, and newly commissioned photography and video, nearly all shown publicly for the first time, the show is organized by Martino Stierli, Ikem Stanley Okoye, and Mallory Cohen.
