Christelle Oyiri: Belief May Vary
Mar 19 – Aug 16, 2026
About
Oyiri's first solo exhibition at a US institution centers on Hauntology of an OG, a newly commissioned video examining Memphis's pyramid landmark, built to evoke ancient Egyptian spiritual architecture, later a sports arena, and now a commercial retail complex, as a case study in the commodification of sacred symbols. The work sets a lo-fi Memphis rap aesthetic against narration by rapper Darius Phatmak Clayton; elsewhere, sculptural works and bas-reliefs render belief in industrial and altered materials. The video is co-commissioned by Amant and LAS Art Foundation, Berlin.
