Cottage Industry: The Val-Kill Furniture Shop

American Wing show marking the centennial of Val-Kill Industries, the Hyde Park furniture workshop Eleanor Roosevelt co-founded with Nancy Cook, Marion Dickerman, and Caroline O'Day in 1926 to give rural craftsmen steady work during the agricultural depression. On view are rare surviving reproduction Colonial and Jacobean-style pieces built with mortise-and-tenon joinery, along with catalogs, photographs, and other ephemera from the shop's decade of operation.
