Cuteness, Conservatism, & Consumption: Lefor-Openo and Postwar France
Sep 25, 2026 – Feb 21, 2027
About
Curated by Angelina Lippert, the show examines Lefor-Openo, a female design duo working in France during the three postwar decades that followed a devastated war economy and the demoralizing legacy of the Vichy collaboration. Alongside contemporaries Raymond Savignac and Hervé Morvan, their twelve-year run of commercial posters for products from washing machines to national lottery tickets is read here as an indirect chronicle of France's shifting shopping habits and leisure culture. A companion book, the first in English on the duo, accompanies the show.
