Designed to Be Red: Native American & Indigenous Poster Works
Sep 25, 2026 – Feb 21, 2027
About
Curated by designer and Monacan Indian Nation member Brian Johnson, the exhibition surveys nearly two centuries of Native graphic design representing more than 60 tribes and nations, countering a history in which outside marketers used graphic design to tell stories about Native Americans rather than with them. Work by Melanie Cervantes, Jeffrey Gibson, Ryan Red Corn, Crystal Worl, and organizations including Akwesasne Notes shows designers using posters for activism, cultural pride, and institutional identity.
