Gerrit Rietveld: Wealth of Sobriety

Drawn from Arjan Bronkhorst's photographic survey of the Dutch architect and furniture designer's built work, the show presents images of fifteen residential commissions completed between 1924 and 1963, including Rietveld's only house built outside the Netherlands, a 1961 Oberlin, Ohio commission that had previously received little documentation. Rather than following the chronological structure of Bronkhorst's 400-photograph book, curators Bronkhorst and Barry Bergdoll juxtapose details from different houses to trace recurring themes in Rietveld's design language.
