Masters of the Stitch: Threaded Stories
May 29 – Aug 8, 2026
About
A rare selling exhibition drawn from more than four decades of collecting by Carolyn Mazloomi, founder of the Women of Color Quilters Network, bringing together works by twelve artists, including Wendell Brown, Michael A. Cummings, Carolyn Crump, and Peggie Hartwell, whose narrative appliqué, improvisational piecing, and mixed-media quilts carry family histories, migration stories, and civil rights narratives. Part of the nationwide Handwork 2026 program, the show positions Black American quiltmaking as a continuing, formally sophisticated tradition rather than folk craft.
