Guided by Port Authority Port Department director Bethann Rooney, the cruise threads through New York and New Jersey harbor waters past the country's second-busiest container terminal, its gantry cranes and cargo yards. Rooney draws on more than three decades in the maritime industry to walk through how cargo handling shifted from wooden ships and manual labor to today's computerized systems, tracing the port's evolution through the Port Authority's 1921 founding. The route also passes the Lower Manhattan skyline and the Statue of Liberty.
