Walking Tour: Downtown New York Architecture in 1776
Sat, Aug 15, 2026 · 2:30 PM ET
About
Marking the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, the tour uses the 1766-76 Ratzer Map as a guide to walk from the southern tip of Manhattan to City Hall Park, passing the sites of Fort George, Fraunces Tavern, Trinity Church, and Federal Hall. Since few structures from the Revolutionary era survive, the route also addresses how the Great Fire of September 1776 destroyed roughly a quarter of the city and reshaped its layout.
