Walking Tour: Modern and Contemporary Architecture on Roosevelt Island

About
The tour traces Roosevelt Island from Philip Johnson and John Burgee's 1969 master plan for Nelson Rockefeller's mixed-income, car-free community, through modernist contributions by John Johansen, Josep Lluís Sert, and Kallmann & McKinnell completed despite the city's 1975 fiscal crisis, up to Cornell Tech's 2017 campus. Highlights include Handel Architects' Passive House-certified dormitory, the restored Blackwell farmhouse, James Renwick's Smallpox Hospital ruins, and Louis Kahn's Four Freedoms Memorial, designed in 1973 and completed in 2012.
