Walking Tour: The Architecture of Madison Square Park
Sat, Aug 29, 2026 · 10:30 AM ET
About
Architect-led walk through one of the small parks that anchored the city's 18th- and 19th-century push northward, tracing Madison Square from its 1847 founding as a residential enclave to its rise as a commercial and entertainment hub. The route considers early skyscrapers such as the Flatiron Building, the former Metropolitan Life tower, and the New York Life Building, alongside the legacies of Stanford White, Daniel Burnham, and Napoleon LeBrun. The park is also noted as the site of the original Madison Square Garden and the first Shake Shack.
