Walking Tour: Upper East Side Architecture Through Affluence and Ailments
Sun, Aug 30, 2026 · 10:30 AM ET
About
AIANY-led walk examining how Central Park's 1857 creation and the extension of Park Avenue north of Grand Central in 1888 reshaped the Upper East Side, as professional classes settled along Park Avenue while immigrant and working-class communities built up the blocks toward the East River. The route also considers how hospitals and medical institutions came to cluster along the river for its open space and light. Guide William M. Singer, AIA, leads the tour with a personal audio system, and the group is capped at 17.
