WALD Studio

Manhattan architectural lighting design firm founded in 1995 by William Armstrong, a Yale School of Drama MFA graduate with over 30 years in architectural and theatrical lighting. The small studio's work spans hospitality, retail, cultural, and education projects, including Top of the Rock at Rockefeller Center, Columbia University's Uris Hall, and the Tom Ford boutique in New York. Armstrong, a University of Michigan graduate, began his career designing Broadway and off-Broadway theatrical productions before moving into architectural lighting. The studio's additional work includes the restoration of 195 Broadway, which won a 2017 AIA New York State Excelsior Award for Historic Preservation, the Sabyasachi flagship store, and The Asbury Hotel.
