Founder & Principal at Focus Lighting

Paul Gregory founded Focus Lighting in 1987 and leads the Harlem-based architectural lighting design firm as principal. He began his career in theatrical lighting before moving into architectural work in the mid-1980s, and in 2025 was named a Fellow of the Illuminating Engineering Society for his contributions to the field and for mentoring younger designers. Gregory trained in theatrical lighting at the Goodman Theatre School at the Art Institute of Chicago and earned an MFA from Parsons School of Design; early in his career he co-founded nightclub lighting firm Litelab Corp in 1975, which he left in 1985. Focus Lighting's projects include the Times Square New Year's Eve Ball and the Space Shuttle Pavilion at the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum, and Gregory has received more than twenty Lumen Awards and induction into Architectural Lighting Magazine's Hall of Fame.
