Roberto Lugo: Alfarero del Barrio (Village Potter)

Roberto Lugo's installation transforms Madison Square Park with two monumental hand-painted sculptures: a 20-foot ceramic urn bearing portraits of Puerto Rican figures including Sonia Sotomayor, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Roberto Clemente, Bad Bunny, Lugo, and his family, and a 15-foot fire hydrant marked with his graffiti signature. Hand-painted domino tables and tire planters are installed throughout the park. The work extends Lugo's practice of merging hip-hop, graffiti, portraiture, and ceramic tradition into public sculpture.
