Furniture & Objects StudioEst. 2020

Studio Guapo is a Lower East Side furniture design studio, showroom, and workshop space founded in 2020 by Matt Pecina, who came to furniture design after leaving art school and working in set design and prop styling. The practice designs and builds small-run furniture, including the Guapo Rocker chair, that draws on streetwear, pop culture, and DIY skate aesthetics, often incorporating reclaimed materials, and hosts collaborative design events and workshops for the local creative community. Pecina has collaborated with streetwear designer Heron Preston on a reclaimed-materials remix of a classic chair for L.E.D. Studio, and with Nike at its House of Innovation store; he also co-founded the collective Pink Essay with David Eardley, which curated the exhibition Wear Your Chair. Studio Guapo's work has been featured in Architectural Digest, i-D, and Sight Unseen.
